How to spot fake Amazon reviews
Shoppers still want to know which reviews to trust. Here are practical tells—plus how we help without pretending to detect every fake review.
Red flags in the review list
A sudden pile of five-star reviews right after launch, identical phrasing, or praise that never mentions how the product is used often signal incentivized or inauthentic feedback. Sort by most recent and read a few one-star reviews—if they describe failures the five-stars never mention, treat the average star rating with skepticism.
What “verified purchase” does and does not prove
Verified purchase means Amazon tied the review to an order. It does not guarantee the reviewer used the product for long, or that the text was not copied from elsewhere. It is one signal, not proof the review is helpful.
What we do instead of scoring fakes
they counted does not grade authenticity. For products we have analyzed, we tally how many reviewers answered yes or no to questions like would buy again, worth the price, and broke or stopped working—then show the quotes behind each count.
Search what reviewers actually said
If we have counted a product, our free review checker shows yes-or-no totals—not a fake-review grade. Browse question boards to compare products on one question at a time.
FAQ
- How do you spot fake Amazon reviews?
- Look for a burst of similar five-star reviews in a short window, vague praise with no specifics, and reviews that only mention the brand name. Compare the top reviews to recent one- and two-star reviews for the same product—they often tell a different story.
- Does they counted spot fake Amazon reviews?
- No. We do not assign a fake-review score or filter reviews by authenticity. We read real reviews and count yes-or-no answers to clear questions like would buy again and worth the price.
- What is better than a fake-review detector?
- Many shoppers prefer seeing what reviewers actually said yes or no to—repeat purchase intent, value, durability—instead of a black-box letter grade from tools like Fakespot or ReviewMeta.
- Can Amazon remove fake reviews?
- Amazon removes some suspicious reviews, but listings still mix enthusiastic early reviews with later complaints. Reading both and checking patterns helps; counting consistent themes across many reviews helps even more.
